Publishing Section of Kickstarter

I've lost faith in humanity...

Browsing the Kickstarter publishing section, I come across children books with weird covers that have hundreds or thousands of dollars donated. Every serious novel seems to be left down below $300...

I mean this is dramatic...you can look from kids novels that may have a few hundred dollars on it. Then you see a picture book...

$22,000USD??? Why?

Even self-help books are getting big money rolling in with the thousands of dollars.

I've seen some really cool looking books on there with only a handful of cash donated...while other books are...

Wait...

377% funded ?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

When do people stop?

It goes without saying that I might be biased...but I was looking at seeing the ones that are successful and what works with them.

Turns out the difference is that people don't stop giving to the picture books and self-help books, but seem to glance over the dark looking novels, the adventure driven books, and the fantastically presented pieces about a very complex fantasy story...

That's it. I'm done. I don't want to live in this world anymore.

If you've followed me before, then you are probably already aware of the project I am running to get Entangled Hearts published in eBook format.

But I am serious about this...

There is a book called "The Container Guide" and it is just a guide to containers... It is 180% funded with over $20,000 USD donated...

Are there that many people who need this?

Really?

It strikes me...

I am so...dumbfounded.

Obviously, I was not expecting a huge applaud for Entangled Hearts the first round. And my reasoning behind looking is for the fact that I need to figure out what attracts supporters. But to find that novels naturally don't get very far?!?!?!

This is very disheartening...

I've refused places like Indiegogo because they allow you the amount you get no matter what. And I'll explain why:
  1. We have a certain amount that is needed to go towards the publication.
  2. There is a set amount over that publication to create rewards.
  3. Part of it is for shipping and handling.
To simplify: if we do not get the whole amount there is no point.

Because then, we cannot afford rewards, we cannot afford the publication, and we cannot do anything. Nothing would be done with the money.

Don't go thinking I just went and set the bar above necessity for kicks. It was for rewards.

I tried submitting a project without rewards too. You know what the guys at kickstarter said?

"You can't do that because you'll get no backers, so you might as well scrap something up."

So I tried what I could. Books and t-shirts are the only things that I can make without creating a copyright problem.

As you can imagine, books are not cheap, especially in a large amount, so there is a limited number of those.

So can't change that either...

All in all...I think this was a good rant. Maybe somebody will read it and realize "HEY! Why aren't they funding the cool novels?"
