Weird "Reviews"

So...I received some weird reviews for Dorm Haze on nook.

This copy will be coming down soon (it takes them a while to receive the information from the publisher about removed books).

But...I thought I would share these...reviews? is that what these are?

But, I thought I would share a laugh.

This has to be the only review that made any sense. It pointed out where the errors were and made clear what the reader did/didn't like about it.
At least this one I can call a review.

Ethics? Ethics then? I suppose you were going somewhere with that...but where?

I...don't even know what this is about.

No...that's not the book's name...that's nonsense.

This is just...what?

Another: WTF moment

And the top of the hilarity is this list of...randomness.

Other than that first review...I really do not know what all of this is. Most people have done justice to these by marking them as not helpful.

I do not even know what people were thinking when they wrote these...

But...maybe you had a laugh.

I know I did.

The Struggle of a Self-Published Author

There are alternatives to the fully paid version of the concept that is “Self-Published Author” in that it takes more effort than what many people presume is a “self-pay” form of publication.

If you did not know by now, I am a self-published author.

I do not shy away from that, as that is the truth. I publish myself by myself through myself with a little help from programs set up by a company called lulu.

But, the option that seems most obvious is “pay for the package that cleans, edits and prepares your manuscript fully for publication” which many authors do through various different companies.

But…and if you have heard me rant before, you probably know…I am a college student, and I have no money for that. I publish for free through Lulu Publishing.

But that means…editing…formatting…clean up…spell check…(and all that marketing stuff that comes later)…are all unpaid for…but a company doesn’t give stuff for free! That’s preposterous!

And you’re right, it is preposterous.

Lulu provides some great service packages, but I don’t buy any. I publish for free because I do all the manual labor of setting up the manuscript myself.

And this brings me to the reason for this long winded tirade of words that you have probably quit on by this point.

So, Dorm Haze! And actually…several other books as well (The Were-Dragon series)...are all getting revamped...

Dorm Haze not as much…the others really really need revamped though.

But, after getting some useful critical feedback that specifies the issues of the books…I looked back on the books and was utterly dumbfounded to find all of the mistakes I had looked over in my many many reviews of the manuscripts (before and after publication).

*Sigh*

And here is where I get to the point.

I am publishing Dorm Haze anew because it has way too many errors. Some technical things, grammatical errors and misspellings I should have noticed before have all gone unnoticed til this point. And I will be fixing everything that is an error and make sure that I make it suit the proceeding books.

There are a few things that I might as well note here...

They won't be "fixed" because they aren't wrong.

Easiest example?   Fryday    This is a very different world (it's post World War something or other) and has a different set of spellings and norms. Friday as we spell it is spelled Fryday in that future.

So yea, that'll stay.

I respect my art and do not want to change it...BUT!

I can admit when there is a mistake. And I'll be fixing as many mistakes as I can (The Were-Dragon included) just in due time.

I'll be working on editing Dorm Haze and finishing Love is Blind (alongside Loose Dagger and Tale of Two Sisters).

Nostalgia

I've grown a bit nostalgic.

It's kind of like looking on old pictures and looking at old memories.

So looking back at first books of serieses...it's kind of like...wow...that happened...and things were so different back then.

My life was different when I wrote it.

The characters were different in that story.

Dorm Haze portrays characters so differently from how they are in book four of that series...looking back on it...

I feel so proud of how far my favorite little vampire has grown.

It brings a tear to my eye.

Updates

So I have some updates.

Mostly, I have been writing most of my updates about my books and series on my website.

In case yo did not know, that changed to christianclason.com.

Okay, so the updates...

I have retired the series "The Were-Dragon" from publication. It remains on sites like Goodreads, as they do not allow books to be deleted. You can find more information on my site.

I am making statements about the books in Academia de Diversidad, regarding books that have not yet been published. I have certain reasons for this, and is more for warning readers who have become invested in the story and are not ready for certain...elements of the stories. You can find information about those upcoming statements here and here.

I made a statement about the fourth book of Academia de Diversidad, Love is Blind. You can find that on this other site.

So yea, lots of updates regarding these series.

Sorry I have not been updating this blog too much lately. I have been drawn out on my creativity to focus on writing and drawing.

What I'm working on: Mostly Academia de Diversidad

So what am I doing?

Oh...mostly catching up with the sequel to Glastica and the sequel to Red Dragon.

I am also working on the fourth book of Academia de Diversidad.

I am quite surprised, but that series has caught on with me for good ideas.

I already have 9 books planned out!

Yea? Haven't been paying attention?

Well, I figure some people aren't interested in some things I do.

Some people are interested in everything.

And some people are just waiting to hear about a sequel update.

So this is the website for the series World of Shadows.

Steam Punk

I'm unfamiliar with the genre of steam punk...but I recently read a little bit about it.

And  what I read was very intriguing.

I am looking into more research for literature of steam punk.

Have any pieces you would suggest a fellow reader to read? I would like something to get a general idea of steam punk on.

But, I am thinking about incorporating the idea into a segment in "World of Shadows"

In case you missed it, World of Shadows is the latest mix of subseries that includes Accursed Love and Academia de Diversidad.

I am not just going to throw it in there like a jackass.

It would be rude to just upset the original plot.

So, instead I just want to take it smoothly with one or two characters from Academia de Diversidad.

I won't say more, because that would give away some of the plot. I was planning on doing the spin off anyways and a steam punk setting (being in another country this character hasn't been in) might prove interesting.

What do you think?

Dear God...Google...

I did a google search this morning...

I was not shocked...

But I was upset.

See, when you're an author, one of the best things to have is a book that is up there in the list of google things. So...when a book has been out for a while, with stuff posted about it, I like to google it and see how it is doing as far as the search engine.



Books like Red Dragon, A Dragon's Curse, and even Entangled Hearts get mixed up for other book titles that other authors wrote...

Not Dorm Haze...




I shouldn't be upset.

It's still the internet, nothing has changed.

But looking up my book's name and finding nothing but  porn videos?

Yea... I'll bet some of you readers came to this post because those key words were in it.





I am still upset though...


Beneath various porn videos that have descriptions that seem like somebody might have been actually raped in them...

Beneath many degrading things that entertain the senses of the depraved...

Is some blog post about my book...




I know, you guy are like "porn is normal" "porn is natural" "why are you upset by porn, it's just porn, everybody does it."




Well haha...



I am typically open minded and I don't judge anybody who wants to do that...but really? Did I have to see a list of porn instead of the book?



At the top of the list will always be porn videos, I guess.



Should I rename the book?

I don't see why. It would only change the search, bending to the will of the internet.




So, while you watch videos of other people getting it on...I'll be trying to find ways to make a book more popular...if that will ever work.

It's not an egocentric thing, it's about making a book available to new readers. People like to research reviews and ratings on books they are curious about. So how are they supposed to find that on the biggest search engine?

That was no better!

Yahoo was probably worse...





I'm just done here...


I'm not going to continue looking for a book that apparently shows no signs of being up there in the search engine...



That just means that for this one title, my advertisement efforts will have to triple.

There's just some bad news.




While attempting to publish the paperback version of this book, I hit a snag. And I have yet to figure out what exactly that snag is.

So this post was supposed to be news with a link to the book...but now this had to be filled in with the bad news...

I took a look and saw that many of my chapters in Dorm Haze were getting too long...so I have rectified this, shortening the chapters, by dividing them up! I'll post the new chapters here! ^_^

Of course...looking at my blog...I think I'll post that after I am finished with the Were-Dragon, which is going to take through new years...

Random Excitement

WOO I went over 1000 views today!

WOO I just made a break through for Red Dragon!

WOO Chapter 1 of the new book (War of the Zealot Empire) is coming out soon! How soon? Prolly once we decide on a name for it...that's about how long it'll take...
(It's an epic adventure/romance...it needs an epic name of sorts)

Sigh...yes it's true... I'm a story whore...

I have a new assassin story coming out that will be unlike any story I've done before or am doing...
1) it's a badass assassin
2) it's modern day
3) I won't release it for the next month I think...

Let me think a moment I got side tracked there.

Chapter 6 of Dorm Haze has been slow to come out, because of a question I ask myself every time I am faced with particular scenes...
Should I really publish it like this?
I eventually come to the conclusion that yes I should...
Then I resume writing...

Overall I think it'll be an interesting taste for a chapter...since you haven't been FULLY introduced to Oriantios' mentality and the relationship between him and Principal Seri...in this series
