Sometimes, there is a generous spark in the world...
I never realized how simple it is to publish an eBook...
That was, until somebody actually stopped to show me how it is done.
There are all kinds of literature telling people how to do this, but it is confusing because there is something that remains separate: Microsoft Word.
When you make an eBook (ePub) you cannot upload a PDF, it has to be some sort of Word format.
What happens is that when you upload it, the eBook converter actually does stuff with your content to make the eBook. So Word has to have some things turned off.
I have Microsoft Word 2010, so if you have the ability to use this format, this description might help you.
Start by clicking File in the upper lefthand corner.
There you'll see the usual drop down list.
From here you will want to click on Help.
Click Options.
When you do, a new window will pop up.
This window will start at General, so you want to click on Proofing.
Then you will click on AutoCorrect Options.
This will open another smaller window.
There will be five sections to this, in which I will show you a picture. Compare with your own and see which ones are checked. To format your eBook, uncheck anything that is displayed here as unchecked.
Note that the section "AutoFormat as You Type" is all unselected except for one. The "Straight Quotes" with "smart quotes" is a part of formatting that allows it to change the boring little lines you see on blogger into the “curly ones” See the difference?
This one is basic formatting. Everything that is still checked did not bother the eBook formatting, so it does not cause problem. Everything else, uncheck it.
This will simplify everything! (I hope)
I'll post another little something about how to format your manuscript as well, but this formatting is a good start for uploading your eBook, because Word likes to mess with the converter.
For fans of my work...be grateful to this nameless person...because without their help, we would still be waiting for funding to help us get the books into eBook format.
OH yea...

This is an important section!!!! |

Ignore this section entirely...it's unimportant for what we are trying to do. |

Notice that this one also has the "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes" |
